Jordan Rhodes’ future at Sheffield Wednesday is uncertain after a disappointing campaign under Garry Monk. The 30-year-old has struggled for form and playing time this season and is the highest-earner at the club, so Wednesday might look to move him on before his contract expires in 2021.

Rhodes has scored three goals in 15 games in 2019/20, amassed less than 500 minutes of Championship football this season and finds himself behind Steven Fletcher, Fernando Forestieri and Atdhe Nuhiu in the pecking order. Supporters from the Sheffield Wednesday Fans Forum believe he should be sold.

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

Sean Bunyan: “Sell. If anyone wants him! No one will be daft enough to pay what we did”

Paul Brown: “A signing for a different set of circumstances. Has enough opportunity to prove he still has it. Sell him for whatever we can use now and reuse. That’s a lot of wages”

Julie Hehir: “Celtic want him and he’s willing to take a pay cut lol”

Max Lloyd Booth: “A completely fresh start needed, not just for us but for the players too! We won’t sell Rhodes nobody will pay for him so just let him go! Write it off as a bad job I say! Thanks for the memories. Best of luck to them! Start afresh”

Nigel Barker: “I would sell him, we can get two good foreign strikers for (half) his money”

Derek Prigmore: “Easy to say sell him, but to who? Who is going to pay the wages he’s on now? He will ride out his lucrative contract for 12 more months and leave for nothing.”

Neil Stacey: “Didn’t work out, time to move on. Funnily enough, at the time we signed him I was one of those that wanted him at Hillsborough. My mate, who is a Middlesbrough fan, said ‘You can have him. Don’t rate him’. At the time, I thought he was talking rubbish”

Aaron Marples: “Move him on, wages are way too much”

Rhodes has made 70 appearances in all competitions since joining Wednesday from Middlesbrough in 2017, scoring 13 goals and four assists. He’s been on the periphery since the summer of 2018, having made just 15 appearances for the Owls in the last two seasons, so he’s expected to be made available for sale this summer.

The Scottish international has been linked with a move to Celtic, but his £2.08m-a-year salary might be a problem – it’s a lot of money for a 30-year-old striker that’s hardly played and been in poor form this season. Fans want Wednesday to cash in, but finding a suitor willing to pay won’t be easy.
