Sheffield Wednesday’s poor form in 2020 continued with a 5-3 defeat to Fulham on Saturday and Barry Bannan was one of many players to come away with criticism for his performance. The 30-year-old started alongside Joey Pelupessy and Massimo Luongo, but he failed to turn over possession and consistently gave the ball the away.

Against Fulham, Bannan played for 90 minutes, had 85 touches, completed 71.6% of his 67 passes, created two chances, whipped in 11 crosses with 36% finding a teammate, made one interception, attempted 19 long balls with 52.6% finding a teammate, gave away one foul and had one dribble.

The Scotland international joined Wednesday on a free transfer from Crystal Palace in 2016 and has gone on to make 208 appearances in all competitions, scoring 11 goals with 33 assists. Bannan has made 45 appearances across the board this season, scoring two goals with eight assists, but his future is in doubt.

The £2.16m-rated midfielder made comments about being better suited to Brentford while wanting Premier League football before he retires, and he’s in the last year of his deal. Bannan wasn’t at his best on Saturday, but he is still an influential player who been one of the more consistent performers for Wednesday this season.
