According to Football Insider, Celtic are ‘not giving up’ trying to sign Jordan Rhodes after being rebuffed in their efforts back in January. The 30-year-old is ‘willing to take a pay cut to force a transfer’ too, as he wanted to leave Sheffield Wednesday months ago.

Rhodes’ contract is up next year and he’s unlikely to be handed an extension, so a departure looks on the cards while he still has some value. Football Insider say the striker’s £40k-per-week wages need to be trimmed before Celtic consider bringing him to Scotland, however.

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

The 30-year-old has spent nearly three years at Hillsborough, having joined Wednesday from Norwich City in the summer of 2017. Rhodes has gone on to make 70 appearances in all competitions, scoring 13 goals and making four assists.

He’s been out of favour over the last two years, making only 14 appearances since April 2018, so a move away would suit all parties. Celtic hope to take advantage and won’t have to pay a transfer fee in the coming months, so Rhodes could be a bargain buy if he recaptures his old form.

As per Transfermarkt, the Scottish international has had a hand in 129 goals in 286 Championship games, 84 goals in 129 League One games and 11 goals in 19 League Two games.
