Joey Pelupessy is out of contract at Sheffield Wednesday this summer and could be on his way out in the coming months as he’s yet to be handed a new deal.

The 26-year-old has struggled for form and playing time under Garry Monk, so it’s hard to see Wednesday extending his stay. A lot of supporters from the Sheffield Wednesday Fans Forum want him gone too.

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

Michael Parker: “Get shut, he is a joke and any manager who picks him is incompetent”

Mick Iggo: “Yes but he’s a cheap option so can’t see him leaving we are in a mess”

Tim Wild: “I’ll take him to wherever he signs. Free of charge”

Paul Brown: “Out of contract and out of the club. Thanks for your efforts. Invest in youth and cheaper options”

Richard Davenport: “Shirt filler – bye!!”

Derek Prigmore: “A no brainer I’m afraid. Nowhere near good enough”

Daniel Wilkes: “We need a massive shake-up. We need players that will play for the shirt, not the money. We are good enough to do that”

Pelupessy has made 71 appearances in all competitions since joining the Owls from Heracles Almelo in 2018, scoring one goal and making three assists. This season, the Dutchman has fallen down the pecking order and hasn’t impressed when called upon.

Monk has preferred Kieran Lee, Barry Bannan and Massimo Luongo in midfield, resulting in Pelupessy amassing less than 700 minutes of Championship football in 2019/20. The 26-year-old has been an unused substitute 18 times in the league and has been criticised by fans when he has played.

Despite coming off the back of a disappointing campaign, there is an argument for Pelupessy to be retained if Lee and Sam Hutchinson are released at the end of their respective deals too.

Wednesday don’t have a transfer budget for a big summer spend, so they may have to retain a lot of underperforming players ahead of next season.
