Fernando Forestieri could be on his way out of Sheffield Wednesday this summer as he’s out of contract in the coming months and hasn’t set the place alight since Garry Monk took over to warrant being handed a new deal.

The 30-year-old has been short of goals, struggled with indiscipline, had numerous injury problems and is one of the highest earners at the club. A lot of supporters from Sheffield Wednesday Fans Forum don’t believe he’s given the Owls a reason to extend his stay.

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

Paul Warner: “Watford fans were so pleased to let him go. They said he is a mardy non-team player and is difficult to control – performs well in the beginning then gets the sulks. Should have been let go when he refused to travel to Norwich.”

Carl Townend: “Needs binning off. Been saying it all the while. Should’ve gone when (he) refused to travel to Norwich.”

Sean Homar: “Personally think its time for him to move on. He goes missing all the time, has had plenty of time out injured, only had one really impressive season and been at the centre of a few major bustups.…”

Neil Jackson: “Cheerio.”

John Emery: “The cons outweigh the pros. Always been the same with him.”

Tony Hinds: “One good season ain’t good enough for the money he’s on.”

Derek Prigmore: “Like many of our players. Fans are hoping he will one day play like he used to. Not good enough I’m afraid. One good season doesn’t make him a great player, he’s been massively disappointing for so long.”

Judy Taylor: “Just another prima donna. Living off one good season.”

Steve Barnes: “Byeeeeeee.”

Neil Stacey: “Great player on his day, but a very expensive guilty pleasure.”

Gary Marsden: “Fantastic player. Not sure what his problem is though. If he could only up his professionalism.”

Micky Gav Verteidiger: “(Forestieri) went sour after the rumours (of him) leaving a few years ago and he’s not been the same since.”

Rollin Crossley: “Thought he was better than his £30k a week. Sell-by date has expired. Get rid…”

Matt Lee: “Shame how it all played out, (he) still ended up being one of our best players this season when he wasn’t injured. At least he ran his socks off and has some footballing ability.”

Paul Warner: “Definitely not seen (his quality) for the last 2 years.”

Forestieri joined Wednesday from Watford in 2015 and has gone on to make 134 appearances in all competitions, scoring 40 goals and making 18 assists. As per Transfermarkt, the Italian striker hit double figures for goals in his first two seasons at Hillsborough, but he’s been underwhelming in the last two campaigns.

In 2018/19, he scored six goals in 26 Championship games. In 2019/20, he scored two goals in 17 Championship games before the season was postponed due to Covid-19. Forestieri earns £1.3m-a-year/£25k-a-week at Wednesday and has found the back of the net only once since November 2019.

As per Transfermarkt, he’s missed six games through suspension after being found guilty of racist abuse and was absent for 11 games due to injury problems.

Is he worth keeping? Or should Wednesday let him run his deal down. Some fans have already spoken…
