Sheffield Wednesday headed to Villa Park and Aston Villa on Saturday looking to keep our season ticking over and we did just that with a 2-1 victory on the day.

Marco Matias gave us the lead within a few minutes of the halftime restart, and although (and credit here) Villa equalised with a worldy from midfielder John McGinn, Steven Fletcher popped up with just over 20 minutes remaining to give us the win and really the scoreline should’ve been greater given our overall performance.

Statistics website WhoScored ran their post game numbers and we had an incredibly high performing top five players from the day.

Steven Fletcher polled 7.65, Daniel Pudil 7.51 and Tom Lees 7.44. Despite appearing to run the game in my eyes, Scottish wizard Barry Bannan bizarrely only received a rating of 6.46 which amazes me with over 100 touches (more than anyone else on the pitch) and a plus 80% pass accuracy.

Fair play to Matias and Reach though for their own showings and they just couldn’t be split given their own contribution in the game and fans can certainly take extra positives from Fletcher’s performance given he’s still working his way back to full fitness following his time out injured.
