Sheffield Wednesday made the trip to Villa Park last weekend to face off against Aston Villa and although John McGinn’s spectacular volley might have taken most of the headlines from the game, Jos Luhukay’s men took all three points.
The win was our fourth of the 2018/19 Championship campaign and it moved us above Villa and into tenth place in the table and with a number of decent showings across the 90 minutes, striker Steven Fletcher did his stock no harm at all as he scored our winner as he continues returning to full fitness and joined Marco Matias on the scoresheet.
With a 2-1 win, the scoreline could’ve even been slightly greater and Fletcher should’ve helped himself to a brace on the day, but he’s progressing well and it wasn’t just the goal that pleased these Owls fans, it was also his willing and work rate.
Blummin eck! How much 'neck' did Fletcher put on that header. Nearly as good as that volley????Brilliant technique #swfc

#swfc what Jos needs to learn from this is playing players in the right positions keep the same team as much as possible and please keep fletcher in instead of Nuhiu. ????

Say what you want about his wages but steven fletcher is a 'big' game player. Newcastle, hudds semi, fulham away, today. #swfc

Professional performance today. Lees and Pudil were immense, three at the back worked so well with Penney pushing on up the left. Plupessey tidied up nicely, Bannan ran the show. Fletcher showed what a clever player he is, Matias and Reach put in shifts. Dawson commanding. #swfc

More than anything today we fought and battled and that’s all I ask…..it’s just even better when we win. Good to see Fletcher get the winner, always works so hard ???????? #swfc

Back to back goals for the 31-year-old and he seems to be playing himself into some form now so that can only be of benefit to us.
