According to TEAMtalk, Sheffield Wednesday are having ‘difficulties convincing’ Morgan Fox to extend his deal. The 26-year-old is soon-to-be out of contract and isn’t close to putting pen to paper on an extension, so TEAMtalk say Fox may be ‘resigned to his exit’ this summer.
Fox joined Wednesday from Charlton Athletic in 2017 and has gone on to make 102 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and making six assists. He’s been a regular under Garry Monk this season, making 31 appearances in all competitions, but Wednesday will have to replace him if he’s unwilling to stay.
The left-back has been in talks over a new deal since January, but his future is uncertain after a lack of progress in the months that followed. Vital Wednesday previously suggested interest from suitors and the Owls’ struggles may be why Fox is considering his options. TEAMtalk think it may be financial.
Monk has Matt Penney, Liam Palmer and Moses Odubajo who can operate at left-back next season, but the Owls will have to consider dipping in the transfer market. With Wednesday not having a budget to replace Fox, free transfers and loan signings will be all they can hope for.
