Sheffield Wednesday are “very confident” that Morgan Fox will sign a new deal this summer, says assistant manager Lee Bullen. The Owls opened talks with Fox in January and “discussions are ongoing”, despite little progress being made.

The 26-year-old will be a free agent in the coming months if he doesn’t put pen to paper on an extension, but Wednesday aren’t worried about the prospect of losing him.

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

Bullen told the Sheffield Star: “I’m aware they had initial discussions and that they are ongoing. I think both lads are really happy and their families are really happy, so we are very, very confident that something can be done.

Fox joined Wednesday from Charlton Athletic in 2017 and has gone on to make 102 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and making six assists. The left-back had an uncertain future after struggling for form and playing time last season, but he’s turned things around in 2019/20.

Matt Penney will return to the Owls after his loan spell at FC St. Pauli and could join up with the first-team next season – Garry Monk has stated a desire to see the 22-year-old up close this summer. Fox has been first-choice for Wednesday this season, however, so his starting place will be his to lose.

Vital Sheff Wed have previously questioned whether the delay in confirmation progress could be due to Wednesday’s poor form in 2020 in addition to the numerous reports of interest from Championship sides, but Bullen’s admission suggests Fox is content to stay.
