Injury blow for Garry Monk as Sheff Wed man ‘remains sidelined’ ahead of Hull clash

Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed that Garry Monk will be without Fernando Forestieri ahead of their meeting with Hull City. The 29-year-old ‘remains sidelined’ with a knee injury and will miss out on Wednesday afternoon.

Forestieri has been out of action for a month and doesn’t appear close to making a return. The Italian forward has made 10 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and creating two goals, but he hasn’t featured since Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Charlton Athletic (November 30).

His initial injury wasn’t expected to be serious, but Forestieri is making slow progress and has now missed six league games. In the striker’s absence, Monk has Jordan Rhodes, Sam Winnall and Atdhe Nuhiu to call upon while Steven Fletcher could return from illness too.

Wednesday will be desperate for a result as their form has spiralled in the last week. The Owls go into their meeting with Hull of the back of consecutive defeats to Stoke City and Cardiff City. Defeat to the Tigers could see Monk’s men drop out of the Championship playoffs too.
