Official: Sheff Wed midfielder ‘could feature’ against Hull City after returning to training

|

Massimo Luongo ‘could feature’ against Hull City on New Year’s Day, Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed. The 27-year-old picked up a head injury in Wednesday’s 3-2 defeat to Stoke City on Boxing Day and missed their 2-1 defeat to Cardiff City on Sunday.

Luongo has since returned to training and should be in contention of making the squad against Hull. Garry Monk gave the nod to Sam Hutchinson to replace the Australian international in midfield and has Kieran Lee at his disposal too. His squad selections haven’t been getting the desired results of late, however.

Wednesday are currently sixth in the Championship table with 39 points from 25 games and are at risk of falling out of the playoffs after losing their last two league games. The Owls may fancy their chances of turning things around, however, as they face a Hull side with only one win from their last five on the road.

Luongo has made 18 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals. He’s likely to make the matchday squad against Hull if fit, but it remains to be seen if he’s able to start.
