Sheffield Wednesday confirm that Steven Fletcher could return in time to face Hull City. The 32-year-old has been out of action for more than two weeks due to illness, but he’s been back on the training field ahead of their midweek clash and is ‘inchin towards a return’.

How will Sheffield Wednesday fare against Hull City?

Lose

Fletcher has made 22 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and creating 14 goals, but his last outing came in the Owls’ 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest (December 14).

The Scotland international missed Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Bristol City (December 22), 3-2 defeat to Stoke City (December 26) and 2-1 defeat to Cardiff City (December 29). In Fletcher’s absence, Garry Monk has turned to Jordan Rhodes, Sam Winnall and Atdhe Nuhiu in attack.

Wednesday’s form has gone to pieces without their top scorer leading the line. Monk’s men go into their clash with Hull City off the back of consecutive defeats and are at risk of falling out of the Championship playoffs if they fail to win.

The Owls currently sit sixth in the table with 39 points from 25 games and have won two of their last three home outings. Hull are 12th with 36 points and have only one win from their last five away games.
