It was another tough and difficult day for Sheffield Wednesday in Saturday’s trip to The Hawthorns to face league leaders West Bromwich Albion.
The hosts took the lead early on but despite creating more chances across the game, we had to wait until a penalty in the 58th minute before Steven Fletcher could restore parity. With a penalty going West Brom’s way to restore their advantage, the late sending off of Liam Palmer ended any hope of a further comeback.
It was a poor performance in many ways though and that was ably demonstrated by statistics website Whoscored’s player ratings following the game.
Goalscorer Fletcher took their Man of the Match with a rating of 7.42, but we only had one more player in the seven’s – with Sam Hutchinson picking up 7.22 for his efforts.
Completing the top five were Mass Luongo (6.82), Dominic Iorfa (6.81) and Jacob Murphy (6.72).
Fans may well continue to argue over whether or not we deserved a point, but we didn’t take one.
