Sheffield Wednesday suffered a 2-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday and Sam Hutchinson found himself singled out by supporters for his performance. The 30-year-old started alongside Barry Bannan and Kieran Lee in midfield but was eventually hooked in the 88th minute.
Hutchinson recently recovered from a calf injury which caused him to miss Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with Swansea City on November 9. Garry Monk chose to start him ahead of Massimo Luongo on Saturday, but some fans felt it was the wrong decision.
Sam Hutchinson has been the worst player on the pitch by a country mile. #SWFC

#swfc amazed that this new midfield trio of Lee , Bannan and Hutchinson isn't working …..????

That is such an awful team my god.
How does Sam Hutchinson get picked over Luongo? Fletcher on his own is just going to result in him being iscolated. Countless poor performances from Harris yet he still starts. Westwood is pish. Reach needs to be starting. #SWFC— ㋡ (@swfcjoshua) November 23, 2019

As per WhoScored, Hutchinson made 41 touches, made one clearance, created three chances, made four interceptions, completed 93.1% of his 29 passes and made six tackles. Whether he keeps his place against Birmingham City on November 27 remains to be seen.
Wednesday’s loss over the weekend left them ninth in the Championship with 25 points in 17 games, having gone four matches without a win. The Owls have won just one of their last half a dozen outings and are slipping down the table as a result.
With Luongo now available to Monk, he might get the nod over Hutchinson in the week.
