“We Ran Out Of Juice A Little” – Bruce’s Wednesday Delight At Effort & Reward

|

Sheffield Wednesday went into today’s Championship clash with Swansea City looking to keep manager Steve Bruce’s unbeaten run going since he came into Hillsborough.

With Wednesday unbeaten in the last four across all competitions and the last five in league action in particular, hopes were high that we would show further improvement on home soil today even though we were missing Fernando Forestieri following his ridiculous sending off and ban from the last match.

With Bruce looking for improvement, the side were listening and Adam Reach gave us the advantage eleven minutes into the game. In minute 32 he completed his brace and just before the half time break Steven Fletcher gave us a three goal advantage.

Swansea did get a consolation with just over 20 minutes remaining in the tie, and that was where the scoring on the day ended.

Speaking to the BBC following the end of the game, Bruce said of the performance and result.

“The way they did their job in the first half, the game plan worked. Second half, it’s fair to say we ran out of juice a little bit. When you play like we did in the first half, it takes a lot out of you. There’s been a few sick in the last week, we’ve got 10 injuries, so in that respect the lads have done very, very well. The effort was there for everybody to see – some of them hadn’t played for a long time. Achraf Lazaar, for example and Rolando Aarons hadn’t played for months, so it was good to see them enjoy their debuts. When you get someone on loan, who hasn’t kicked a ball for practically 18 months, you know it’s a risk. But I thought it was well worth it.”
