Bruce Looking For Significant Improvement As We Look To Swansea

|

With Sheffield Wednesday continuing preparations for this Saturday’s Championship clash with Swansea City at Hillsborough, manager Steve Bruce has demanded improvement from the first team squad after a poor display against Rotherham United in our last match.

Last weekend Wednesday battled back from behind to secure a point from a 2-2 draw with Fernando Forestieri first giving us the lead and January arrival Dominic Iorfa scoring the leveller ten minutes into stoppage-time.

With the hosts Rotherham utterly dominating chances on the day with 25 overall and six on target compared to our eleven overall and four on target, the focus after that game was injury time and Forestieri’s sending off for two bookable offences, but the performance itself had been noted as he spoke to the Star in this week’s pre-game press conference.

“We were disappointing on Saturday and we made too many mistakes. Rotherham are fighting for their lives and play a certain way. We went from being rock solid and that is what was disappointing. It was all our undoing. We started off bright enough and got a good goal and we conceded within a minute or so, which is not acceptable. You can’t win games in the Championship unless you do the basics right. Yes, we have got some good footballers. Yes, we want to play some more and we will try to encourage them to play more. But we have to eliminate the silly mistakes which obviously the club was littered with before Christmas. We will work on that and their concentration levels. That has to be at a good level.”

Plenty of things to be worked on but our unbeaten run under Bruce directly does now stretch to four games, so if we can show that improvement and get back to winning ways it’ll ease pressure and bolster hope for next season.
