According to TEAMtalk, Jordan Rhodes has been ‘told he can leave’ Sheffield Wednesday in January.

The 29-year-old has struggled for form and playing time this season and is out of contract in July. He doesn’t appear to have a future at Hillsborough and Blackburn Rovers could offer him a quick escape route.

Rovers are keen to bring Rhodes back to Ewood Park, four years after he left. The Scotland international scored and created 97 goals in 169 games between 2012 and 2016, so he would be a popular signing with supporters.

That being said, Rhodes may not be the same player they remember. He’s scored just 13 goals in 68 games for Wednesday, only four of which have come in the last 14 months.

This season, the 29-year-old has racked up less than 582 minutes of football across the broad and has only scored in one of his 13 appearances – a hat-trick in Wednesday’s 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest (December 14, 2019).

The Owls paid £10m for Rhodes in 2017 and want to get some money back through his sale in January rather than lose him for nothing in July.
