Sheffield Wednesday could be without Kieran Lee against Wigan Athletic on Tuesday. The 31-year-old missed Friday’s FA Cup win over Queens Park Rangers due to a recurring shoulder injury and Garry Monk admitted that Lee faces a race to be fit in time to face the Latics.

He told Alex Miller of the Sheffield Star: “Kieran had a shoulder injury from the Leeds game. Hopefully… will be back for Tuesday, if not it will be the weekend.” Lee played a full 90 minutes in Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Leeds United (January 11) and may have exacerbated his injury by playing in the Owls’ 5-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers (January 18).

The timing couldn’t be worse, as Wednesday have a number of midfielders on the treatment table. Massimo Luongo picked up a groin injury which ruled him out against QPR while Sam Hutchinson was stamped on during the game and now has a foot injury.

Monk only has Barry Bannan and Joey Pelupessy at his disposal and will be desperate for one of the injured players to return before Tuesday. The Wednesday boss called up Alex Hunt to provide midfield cover against QPR and may have to keep him in the squad for Wigan at this rate.
