Report: Sheff Wed’s dealt another blow to pursuit of 30 y/o as ‘12 clubs want striker’

With Steven Fletcher, Fernando Forestieri, Atdhe Nuhiu, Sam Winnall and Fraser Preston out of contract this summer, Sheffield Wednesday may need to strengthen in attack.

The Owls have shown the most interest in Lyle Taylor, with the 30-year-old having impressed in his two years at Charlton Athletic, but their pursuit for the striker has taken another hit as Sky Sports say up to ’12 clubs want the striker’.

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

Taylor has netted 36 goals and made 14 assists in 67 games since joining Charlton from AFC Wimbledon in 2018. The Montserrat international has 11 goals in 22 Championship games this season alone, so he could be a valuable asset for Wednesday.

In addition to the Owls, Sky Sports say Burnley, Sivasspor, West Bromwich Albion, Brentford, Bristol City, Rangers and Swansea City are among the 12 clubs interested. Galatasaray have also been linked and will be able to blow Wednesday out of the water financially.

Taylor was always going to be an ambitious signing, but the number of clubs interested makes Wednesday’s job of luring him to Hillsborough even harder. The 30-year-old isn’t likely to leave Charlton for a side just a few places higher up in the same division.
