Sheffield Wednesday have been dealt a major blow in their pursuit of Lyle Taylor, with the Daily Mail saying Galatasaray have offered to ‘quadruple his money’.
Wednesday could suffer an exodus of strikers this summer, with Fraser Preston, Sam Winnall, Atdhe Nuhiu, Fernando Forestieri and Steven Fletcher out of contract in a matter of weeks, so the Owls are scouring the transfer market to bolster their backline.
Vital Wednesday have suggested that Tyler Walker, Dwight Gayle and Sammy Ameobi should be on their radar, but Taylor is one player they’re very keen to sign. The 30-year-old is coming off the back of a prolific campaign and is a free agent this summer, but Gala may be leading the race for his signature.
With Wednesday having a tight transfer budget and needing to trim their wage bill, it’s unlikely they will try to match Taylor’s contract demands. The striker boasts 36 goals and 14 assists in 67 games for Charlton Athletic and would have been a fantastic signing for Monk, but there will be stiff competition.
Taylor’s fine form has attracted a lot of attention, so the Owls may have to consider other targets.
