Report: Sheff Wed ‘looking for new blood’ with interest in Manchester United midfielder

|

According to The Sun, Sheffield Wednesday are ‘looking for new blood’ with interest in James Garner and may have to battle Swansea City to procure his signature. The 19-year-old isn’t commanding a starting place at Manchester United and may be available on loan next season.

Wednesday are preparing for the potential loss of many out-of-contract midfielders (Sam Hutchinson, Kieran Lee, Joey Pelupessy) this summer by bolstering their options in the engine room, but it remains to be seen if they’ll be successful with Garner.

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

The England U19 international rose through the youth ranks to the first-team in 2019 and has gone on to make seven appearances in all competitions.

Garner’s prospects of getting opportunities under Ole Gunnar Solksjaer are slim, however, as Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Fred, Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic are currently ahead in the pecking order, so Wednesday are hoping to capitalise.

Vital Sheff Wed explained that Wednesday don’t have a transfer budget for new recruits, so loan deals and free transfers may be the way forward.

The Owls’ poor form might put Garner off from making a move, however, as their form fell off a cliff in 2020. Swansea have been eyeing the 19-year-old for some time and may be deemed a more attractive club.
