Fernando Forestieri was expected to return to training this week, but it’s highly unlikely he’ll be in any condition to feature against Queens Park Rangers on Friday. Sheffield Wednesday travel to Loftus Road for their FA Cup fourth-round clash. Garry Monk is expected to ring the changes, but the Owls’ upcoming fixture may have come too soon for the 30-year-old.

Forestieri jarred his knee in Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Charlton Athletic (November 30) and has been out of action ever since. The Italian forward has missed 10 games in all competitions but is nearing a comeback. His match fitness will need a lot of work after his two-month absence, so Monk is unlikely to rush his return.
It’s the second time in a matter of months that Forestieri has been out for a lengthy period, having previously been banned for six games for using racist language, so he’s hardly made an impact for Wednesday this season. The 30-year-old has made 10 appearances in all competitions, racking up only 312 minutes of football, and is out of contract in July.
This is his last chance to prove his worth to Wednesday, but Forestieri has spent more time off the pitch than on it.
