Keiren Westwood has an uncertain future at Sheffield Wednesday after his snub by Garry Monk. The 35-year-old started the season at Wednesday’s first-choice goalkeeper, but he’s lost his place between the sticks after suspension, a poor run of form and injury problems. Westwood isn’t even making the matchday squad.

Cameron Dawson is now Wednesday’s first-choice under Monk while Joe Wildsmith has been on the bench after returning from injury. Westwood has been frozen out of the first-team in the last two months and may be considering his future at Hillsborough. He’s now third-choice while Paul Jones is fourth in the pecking order.

The Republic of Ireland international has made 14 appearances in all competitions this season, conceding 15 goals and keeping only four clean sheets. His last outing came in Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion (November 23) and he’s only made the bench twice since then.

Despite being dropped, Westwood has been positive on social media of late. He’s posted training pictures on Twitter and updated fans on Instagram to show he’s still working hard to earn back his place, but it remains to be seen what Monk will do.

The Owls manager told Dom Howson of the Sheffield Star that his decision to drop Westwood came as a result of rewarding Dawson and Wildsmith for impressing him. He doesn’t want to let any of his goalkeeper’s leave, but Westwood won’t want to waste time on the periphery at his age.

That being said, there’s still four months of the season to go. Wednesday have lost four of their last five games, conceding 11 goals, so could Monk ring the changes if things don’t improve?
