Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed that Fernando Forestieri ‘will miss out’ against Blackburn Rovers as he’s still recovering from a knee injury. The 30-year-old has been out of action since late-November, causing him to miss nine games across the board.

Forestieri has made 10 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and creating two goals. The Italian striker’s last outing for Wednesday came in their 3-1 win over Charlton Athletic (November 30). He was substituted at half-time for Jacob Murphy and hasn’t featured since.

Wednesday’s latest injury update does say Forestieri has been doing light training, but he won’t return to first-team training until ‘next week’. He’s likely to be short of match fitness too, so Garry Monk might have to ease him back into action. In his absence, Jordan Rhodes, Sam Winnall and Atdhe Nuhiu will be available.

The Owls are currently sixth in the Championship with 42 points from 27 games, having recently ended a three-game losing streak with a 2-0 win over Leeds United (January 11). Victory could see Wednesday move a place up the table if results go their way this weekend.
