Garry Monk hooked Fernando Forestieri in Sheffield Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Charlton Athletic and revealed in the aftermath of Saturday’s clash why he made the change. The 29-year-old started against the Addicks but came off at half-time for Jacob Murphy.

It remains to be seen if Forestieri will return in time to face Brentford on December 7, but Monk is confident that he will make a swift recovery. He explained to the Sheffield Star what injury the Italian is carrying and when he should be back in action.

The Wednesday manager was quoted as saying on Monday: “I don’t know. He just felt he couldn’t continue at half-time, he said he’s jarred his knee. I don’t know if it was in a challenge, he said he’d gone down. But yeah, we’ll assess that and I’m sure he’ll be fine.”

Forestieri was making his first Championship start since August, operating on the left-wing, so it was disappointing that he was unable to finish the match. He’s made 10 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and creating two goals, and could keep his place against Brentford if passed fit in time.

How will Sheffield Wednesday fare against Brentford?

Monk has plenty of options out wide ahead of Saturday’s clash – Murphy, Forestieri, Adam Reach, Kadeem Harris – so it remains to be seen how Wednesday will lineup. Victory at Hillsborough could see them move into the Championship playoffs if results go their way.
