‘Terrible’, ‘Can we just forfeit?’ – some fans aren’t happy with Sheff Wed’s FA Cup draw

|

Sheffield Wednesday were drawn away to Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup third round and supporters are pessimistic about their chances of coming out on top.

How will Sheffield Wednesday fare against Brighton & Hove Albion?

Win

Draw

Lose

The Owls travel to the Amex Stadium on the weekend of January 3-6 – a stadium they’ve only won at twice since the turn of the Millenium – and fans aren’t too happy with the prospect of a 460-mile (nine-hour) round-trip to a low-capacity ground of an unattractive and slightly-better club.

Wednesday don’t have the best record against Brighton. The Owls have managed just one win from their last seven meetings and lost both matches the last time the two sides were in the same division – Sheff Wed 1-2 Brighton (October 1, 2016), Brighton 2-1 Sheff Wed (January 20, 2017).

To be knocked out by a side sitting 16th in the Premier League would be such a let-down, which is why supporters are unhappy with the draw. Wednesday would have preferred a winnable tie on home soil or a Premier League giant away at one of the biggest grounds in the country.

Unfortunately, Wednesday have been given something in the middle. Whether they can end their three-game winless run against Brighton in January remains to be seen.
