Sheffield Wednesday took a much needed and well deserved 2-1 victory over Millwall yesterday evening as we got our Championship campaign in 2018/19 up and running.

There were a number of top performances from players as we put previous disappointments behind us, but midfielder Barry Bannan undoubtedly stole the show with his spectacular volley to open the scoring in the 16th minute of the first half.

It got us underway in the game and no doubt helped settle any nerves, as well as giving us a confidence shot, and Tom Lees built on that one minute into the final 45 to give us full advantage – even if Millwall did make it a nervy ending when Ryan Tunnicliffe found the net.

The goal certainly hit the right note for fans in at Hillsborough and those following on social media and when the little man followed up with a tweet later in the evening, well I think we call that a love in.

It’s not the first time either and whilst he doesn’t score as many as most believe he should with that wand of a left foot of his, when he does they tend to be memorable.

Now we hope for a repeat performance to really get confidence going.
