Sheffield Wednesday enjoyed a 1-0 win over Charlton Athletic on Wednesday evening and Tom Lees was one of many players to come away with praise from supporters for his performance. The 29-year-old started alongside Julian Borner at centre-back and helped the Owls keep their first clean sheet in five games.
Lees was dominant in the air, frequently turned over possession, managed to grab himself an assist and produced a match-saving block on Lyle Taylor to preserve Wednesday’s clean sheet. Supporters were delighted with his contribution at Hillsborough and took to social media to shower him in praise.
Lees had a quality match. Hope that puts the Lees doubters back in their boxes for a bit. This tackle gave us the platform to go on and win #swfc https://t.co/n1yUa8kv1I

Thought Tom Lees played well tonight! Won the ball in the air, kept it simple with the passing and made some timely blocks! #swfc #WAWAW

By the way, I was critical of Tom Lees on Saturday, so it's only fair to say I thought he really was excellent tonight #swfc

He doesn’t get the fan boy mentions Iorfa does on here but Lees block at 0-0 was a match winner and he won the header to set the goal up. I though he played really well after a very bad run of form. Well done Tom Lees that showed the courage some were doubting #swfc

A few of #SWFC players worth a special mention in my view, aside from the inspirational Steven Fletcher. Tom Lees capped a dominant display with a brilliant block on Lyle Taylor. And Jacob Murphy now a constant threat down the right, showing his quality.

Forestieri, Bannan, Lees, Palmer, Lee and Fox all brilliant tonight. Fletcher coming on and showing what we’ve missed for weeks as well. What a vitally important win #SWFC

Tom Lees and Börner were superb yesterday, we kept getting the ball back because the were so aggresive and won the ball. Bannan and Lee looked very good! Nando was superb, his finishing not so much but everything else 👌
Murphy was really good again and so were te fullbacks #swfc— Sergej Odström (@SergejOdstrom) February 27, 2020
Against Charlton, Lees played for 90 minutes, had 41 touches, won eight aerial duels, created one chance which ended up as an assist, had two shots, completed 65.5% of his 29 passes, whipped in one cross, found a teammate with two of his seven long balls, made two tackles, blocked one shot, made two interceptions, drew one foul and made three clearances.
Wednesday’s long-awaited win was their first in eight games and saw them move to within two points of 11th-placed Cardiff City.
