Sheffield Wednesday can’t seem to catch a break at the moment with ongoing Financial Fair Play and Stadium shenanigans rumbling on in the background, and manager Garry Monk’s preparations for the upcoming festive period have taken a further knock as he’s now confirmed that striker Fernando Forestieri is set to miss another block of games.

In the 3-1 victory over Charlton Athletic at the end of November, 29-year-old Forestieri only made it to the half time break before being replaced by Jacob Murphy, and initially Monk felt that it was only a ‘niggle’ and he would soon be back for us. He did then miss last weekend’s victory over Brentford, and Monk admitted at the time his spell on the sidelines could be seven to ten days.

With preparations continuing for Wednesday evening’s trip to Derby County our gaffer has now confirmed he could be out for longer than that.

“It could possibly be a little bit longer. We will have to wait and see whether this week is going to be good for him or not. I have to keep assessing it. We have to be careful. He has had inconsistency or so in the last two years. He had an inconsistent start with being suspended for so long and in and out of the team. We will assess him as we go along and see what happens.”

Monk also confirmed that Keiren Westwood and Liam Palmer still needed assessing as well, but with Forestieri having his issues and being limited to only two starts and eight substitute appearances so far this year, some fans have clearly had enough.
