Joe Wildsmith recently returned from injury and represented Sheffield Wednesday u23s on Monday.
The 23-year-old had been out of action all season after damaging his cruciate ligament over the summer, but he’s fully recovered and could find himself back in the first-team matchday squad later this month.
Wildsmith has been working on his fitness in the past few weeks and finally made his first appearance of the season for the reserves – playing a full 90 minutes as the Owls lost 1-0 to Leeds United at Thorp Arch.
The Englishman has made 48 appearances in all competitions for Wednesday, conceding 66 goals and keeping 15 clean sheets. He was second-choice to Cameron Dawson in the past and may be called upon again while Keiren Westwood is out of action.
Should Joe Wildsmith stay at Sheffield Wednesday?
Yes
No
Garry Monk has used Paul Jones as backup for Dawson in goal, but Wildsmith might soon replace the 33-year-old. The Wednesday manager has openly said Dawson and Wildsmith are the future of the club too. Wildsmith is unlikely to face Derby on Wednesday but could return over the weekend.
The Owls travel to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
