Bruce Highlights A “Concern” To Be Worked On After Owls Take Victory Again

|

Sheffield Wednesday manager Steve Bruce’s unbeaten run at the club continued in midweek and the Owls went into today’s Championship clash with Blackburn Rovers only four points from Derby County who sit in sixth spot in the second tier table.

With a significant turn in our form, optimism has crept back into the fanbase and victory today would certainly boost outside hopes of sneaking into the top six.

It was a bright start from the Owls as Steven Fletcher gave us the lead ten minutes in. We couldn’t build on our advantage until the second half though, but goals from Atdhe Nuhiu, Dominic Iorfa and Marco Matias saw us notch up four. Inside of the final 20 minutes Blackburn did get on the scoresheet twice themselves and whilst there will be some disappointment at not keeping the clean sheet, you can’t always have everything can you.

Speaking to the BBC following the fulltime whistle, our gaffer said of the tie at Hillsborough.

“We took our chances at the right time. On our first real attack we scored and that calmed everybody down a bit – and just at the right times we’ve scored again. It should have been more comfortable than what it turned out to be. Blackburn are very decent up the top end of the pitch and they’ve been going along very nicely up until the last month or so. You can’t underestimate any team and, make no mistake, Blackburn caused us a few problems. The bit of quality we’ve showed down the right from Dom – maybe I’m playing him in the wrong position! He’s made one goal and got another and I’m delighted he’s settled in so well. There were one or two things that alarmed me later on – we went a bit deep too quickly and couldn’t get to the ball quick enough and that was a concern.”
