“Best Performance Since I’ve Been At The Club” – Bruce Delighted With Wednesday Efforts

|

With Sheffield Wednesday unbeaten in the last five in the more recent form guides, manager Steve Bruce’s start to life at Hillsborough has been steady if not spectacular. With Brentford visiting our home soil in tonight’s midweek Championship action, another win would be ideal but showing further improvement and remaining unbeaten would certainly be welcomed.

Victory could see us move joint ninth depending on results elsewhere, whilst a loss would see Brentford leapfrog us and push us down the table and in form terms, they were going to be a tough cookie to crack.

Brentford had more of the ball, but the players are clearly responding to Brucie as we had nigh on double their chances overall in the game and double the efforts on target – and in making two of them count as Steven Fletcher helped himself to a brace in the 41st and 48th minutes of the tie, he sent all three points our way. Unbeaten run continued, with another win.

Can’t ask for more than that.

Speaking to the BBC following the end of the game, Bruce said of our showing.

“It was certainly the best performance since I’ve been at the club. From the first whistle to the last, I thought we were worthy winners. Some of the stuff we played and the way we worked was terrific. I can’t fault them for their effort and endeavour. They’re working extremely hard and I can’t ask for more. We could have a really good end to the season. We’ve got a huge game (Stell City) to look forward to next Monday.”
