With Play-off hopes realistically over for Sheffield Wednesday, manager Steve Bruce would still be looking for a strong end to the campaign so we approach 2019/20 with some momentum, but Friday evening’s late Championship kickoff with Norwich City was always going to be tough.

With Bruce’s unbeaten run coming to an end with a couple of hiccups more recently, the attitude has largely remained right and the optimism continues, and last night built on that.

With Norwich opening the scoring, we reacted with goals from Fernando Forestieri and Steven Fletcher, but seven minutes into stoppage-time at the end of the game they levelled and then the referee decided to blow his whistle.

Statistics website Whoscored were incredibly positive in their player ratings and clearly had us on top.

Forestieri took their star man award with a score of 8.69, and fellow goalscorer Fletcher followed in second place on 8.21.

Completing the top five were Marco Matias (7.46), Liam Palmer (7.42) and Dominic Iorfa (7.33).

Tom Lees and Joey Pelupessy also received plus seven ratings.

As a comparison, the Championship table toppers had four players with scores of seven-plus as we dented their automatic promotion hopes!

I think most fans would’ve picked Fletcher who provided more of a threat, won 13 aerials and also had two key passes but that’s a minor point.
