Following the disappointing late defeat to Aston Villa in our last game and the loss of manager Steve Bruce’s lengthy unbeaten run, Sheffield Wednesday were looking to get back on the proverbial horse earlier this evening as we welcomed Nottingham Forest to Hillsborough.

After a goalless first half in a game that was largely level, the Owls got their foot in front shortly after the halftime restart as Marco Matias gave us the advantage. George Boyd made it 2-0 just ahead of the hour mark, and Matias completed his brace in the 67th minute to make it a comfortable 3-0 lead.

In the remaining minutes of the tie, Wednesday kept the clean sheet and our outside Play-Off hopes in the season of 2018/19 remain more than alive as the final weeks of the campaign now approach.

We’d have taken that at kickoff following our last disappointment.

Speaking to the BBC following the game, Bruce said of the performance and result.

“We didn’t deserve what happened on Saturday and all of the squad have done fantastically well. There’s a good spirit amongst them at the minute. Unfortunately games are running out but we’ve still got a bit to play for and who knows?”
