With Sheffield Wednesday fans knowing that the club were hoping to get one more deal over the line on deadline day, a short time ago the club confirmed the speculation linking us with a move for Hamburg centre-half David Bates, and the 22-year-old prospect joins us on a season long loan for the 2019/20 Championship campaign.

The “Ginger Ramos” Has A Nice Ring To It – Could Be A Decent Wednesday Addition

Having come through Raith Rovers ranks, his first taste of senior football came with East Sterling and he enjoyed a further loan spell with Brechin, before arriving at Ibrox for a spell with Rangers. He left the Scottish giants with 28 appearances to his name, and he made a free agent switch out to the Bundesliga 2, joining Hamburg and it seems he’s impressed whilst with them, even gaining himself four Scotland senior caps.

He comes to us as per the Official Site but there are mixed reports at the minute as to whether or not it’s a loan with a view to a permanent deal next summer.

With the announcement coming so late in the day, I imagine that will be cleared up pretty quickly – it does disappointingly end hopes of seeing Michael Hector return.

  • Would have liked big Hec , but bearing in mind our precarios financial state over the last 2 seasons the 3 lads signed along with the makeshift keeper Paul Jones will hopefully propel us in the right direction , Huddersfield town and our near neighbours have proved that you dont have to spend big to get promoted to the premier league , and seeing as we have stated the intention to operate with a smaller squad we may see some of the fringe players go out on loan to division one

    • I believe Hector has remained with Chelsea (could be wrong), if they wouldn’t wriggle on transfer fee, as you say, we’ve learnt our lesson. Return in January maybe where they’ll take less as his contract gets closer to running down. Bates may well surprise a few though.

  • Would have loved hector.but glad we stood our ground against Chelsea. Maybe a January addition to the squad to look forward too maybe. Need to give bullen a run as manager looks like his input so for looks positive.wawaw

    • Looks like Hector to Fulham in January, unlucky not to have gone through today by what I’ve read now. Shame, but after his efforts wish him all the best. Just hope he has a mare when we play them.
