With a busy deadline day for Sheffield Wednesday with a few new faces coming through the door and being confirmed as new captures, one expected departure – Jordan Rhodes – didn’t go anywhere.

With his cost to the club and us looking to run a lot leaner in the future, many expected that he would probably head out at least on loan again like last season’s spell at Norwich City, and there was some expectation that the Canaries would do a permanent deal for him as well, but that failed to happen.

It’s also fair to say that after a tough time at Hillsborough so far, a number of fans were hoping for Rhodes to get a second lease of life at the club and get back to the player we all know he’s capable of being, and Lee Bullen’s latest words to the Yorkshire Evening Post clearly show the 29-year-old has that chance in the 2019/20 campaign.

“Obviously we were aware of the speculation and how well he did at Norwich. The Norwich manager spoke well of him in the press, but it was something we could not get done. He is a big part of the squad going forward and will hopefully play a part in getting two promotions in a row. He’s had an up and down couple of seasons, but his record is second to none.”

Bullen also confirmed that despite our chase for Michael Hector, Chelsea were simply asking too much for him so as it wasn’t within our ‘guidelines’ for the window, we had to walk away.

Reactions to the Tweet of his quote has certainly gone down well amongst fans, as you can see by clicking on it.
