Wednesday ended Huddersfield Town`s 100% home record and denied them a return to the top of the Championship with a 1-0 win, thanks to under pressure forward Fernando Forestieri.

Huddersfield dominated possession but could not break down a stubborn Wednesday side who always looked threatening on the break.

Wednesday started at pace, as they looked to hit the hosts out of the blocks. Forestieri was clear down the left and his cut back eventually falling for Kieran Lee, whose effort deflected behind. The corner resulted in Daniel Pudil missing a good chance at the back post, and when the ball was worked back out to Jones on the right the former Burnley midfielder, having been to the Owls starting XI, saw his cross-cum-shot cannoned back off the crossbar.

Huddersfield soon began to gain control in midfield and took over the majority of possession. Chris Lowe`s corner was cleared only as far as the Australian Aaron Mooy, whose 25‑yard shot flew over the bar, while Kachunga and Kasey Palmer were both denied by Keiren Westwood including a wicked defection of Pudil diving challenge.

So, 0 – 0 at halftime and both sides could have been ahead. Shortly after the restart Forestieri was sent clear, but his chipped finish beat goalkeeper Danny Ward it bounced back off the post as Town hearts raced.

That was just a warning for the home side, as Forestieri did open the scoring after Van La Parra`s handball from a Tom Lees effort resulted in a penalty. Fernando made no mistake and warmly milked the celebrations after being highlighted by Carlos earlier in the week for under performing. Town needed to score and started testing the Owls defence straight away. Australian Mooy fired a free-kick over and substitute Jack Payne saw his effort headed over the bar. Wednesday still carved out chances with Hooper missing a header at the back post.

With 10 minutes remaining Lee headed a Kachunga shot off the line. The Owls broke and Hooper played in Palmer bit his striker was only able to find Ward.
