John Hills has suffered fractured a rib in what Sturrock describes as a ‘serious accident’ and will be out of action for around four weeks. The 27 year old defender was, according to reports, lucky to escape without further injuries. The former Gillingham player was about to undergo surgery to sure his knee injury, so he would have been missing anyway!

With the news that David Lucas and Graham Coughlan are also out, Sturrock says he is stepping up his search for a loan player to bolster the squad.

He told the club’s official website about the one that got away! ‘I lost one on Monday. The player had agreed to come and then decided overnight he was going to stay and fight for his place at his club. We’ll scour the lists and see if we can strengthen with a utility player who can play two or three positions. We’ve got 10 days after Wednesday so we can watch games on a Saturday and then chip away at clubs next week.’

He has also put a stop to the constant speculation about the signing of a striker saying: ‘I think there has been too much chat about the striker; when he turns up, he turns up. I just feel there is no longer a discussion about this until it happens.’
