Shot stopper David Lucas is due to be offered a new contract by The Owls.

Despite Paul Sturrock saying he was putting all talk of contracts and deals on hold until the players proved their worth, the boss has made an exception for Lucas.

Sturrock explained to the official site: ‘Your goalkeeper is a key area of the pitch which you must make sure you have covered. And David has been very influential for us since the start of the season.’

Lucas is recovering from surgery to cure a knee cartilage problem and is due to be back in contention in around four weeks time. Seems ops are spreading, as John Hills has undergone similar surgery and will be out for a the same sort of time. The defender hasn’t had much luck of late, following his car accident last week in which he broke a rib.
