Report: Midfielder “will be extending” contract at Sheff Wed, manager confirms
Garry Monk has confirmed that Kieran Lee “will definitely be extending” his contract at Sheffield Wednesday until the end of the revised season. The 31-year-old’s deal is up this summer, but Monk says he’s agreed to stay on for Wednesday’s remaining nine games.
In quotes reported by Yorkshire Live, the Owls manager said: “Kieran Lee will definitely be extending for the short-term at least and we are hopeful of the others following. Everyone in the training group has been asked to extend.
“We’re going to need everyone. Hopefully everyone will agree to that. He’s a fantastic lad. He’s the only one nailed just yet but we’ve got a month to sort the rest of those out and I’m hopeful we can do that.”

Lee has made 25 appearances in all competitions this season, making five assists. When fit, he’s been a regular under Monk and is an important player in midfield, but Lee’s future is uncertain.
The 31-year-old’s deal has been allowed to run down and he’s one of Wednesday’s highest-earners on £0.96m-a-year/£18k-a-week, so Dejphon Chansiri may trim the wage bill by axing a number of out-of-contract players.
In addition to Lee, Morgan Fox, Sam Hutchinson, Sam Winnall, Atdhe Nuhiu, Steven Fletcher and Fernando Forestieri could all be on their way out in the coming weeks, so an exodus is on the cards.
