Official: Sheffield Wednesday confirm 10th signing of the season

|

Sheffield Wednesday confirmed the signing of Ryan Galvin from Wigan Athletic on Thursday afternoon – their 10th acquisition of the season and their third of the January transfer window after Manuel Hidalgo (Triestini) and Alessio Da Cruz (Parma).

Galvin has signed a professional contract after a successful trial and will now develop in the u23s. The 19-year-old featured in their 3-2 defeat to Hull City reserves on January 24 and did enough to earn himself a deal. Wednesday’s report doesn’t disclose the length of his contract, however.

The Owls have needed a left-back to provide cover for Morgan Fox, as Liam Palmer, Moses Odubajo and Ash Baker are natural right-backs, but Galvin will be one for the future. Fans may not see a lot of him this season.

Wednesday’s u23s are currently 10th in the Professional Development League (North) with 17 points from 18 games, having picked up just one win from their last six. The Young Owls next face Leeds United on February 3 and could go four points clear of 11th-placed Sheffield United with a win.
