According to Pete O’Rourke of the Football Insider, Sheffield Wednesday have ‘made a fresh move’ for Josh Windass and could offer Jordan Rhodes as part of the deal. Wednesday had a loan offer for Windass rejected last week, but they’ve returned for the 26-year-old and are willing to give them a player in exchange for his services.
Rhodes has an uncertain future at Hillsborough. The 29-year-old has scored three goals in 15 appearances this season and has struggled for playing time in recent weeks. Rhodes’ contract is up in the summer and there’s been no talk of a new deal, so Wednesday could look to cash in before the January transfer window shuts.
If the Owls can’t offload the centre-forward, they’ll lose him for nothing in July. Whether Wigan are willing to swap the two players remains to be seen, however. Windass has scored four goals in 12 Championship starts, creating 15 chances and making 11 successful dribbles (42%).
Wednesday are resigned to losing Rhodes and don’t appear keen to keep him, so getting Windass in return could be a good trade as he’ll provide much-needed creativity.
