Sheffield Wednesday confirmed in their retained list that Jack Stobbs will be released at the end of his contract this summer. The 23-year-old revealed back in May that his deal wouldn’t be renewed, having failed to make an appearance in the first-team since 2018, so Stobbs will now be on the hunt for a new club.
Stobbs joined Wednesday at the age of six and signed a two-and-a-half-year deal in February 2018 that he’s now come to the end of. The wide-man has only made six first-team appearances for Wednesday, the last coming two years ago, so he was never going to stay beyond 2020.
A lack of playing time led Stobbs to join Livingston on loan last summer. He made four appearances before a knee injury cut his time short at the Almondvale Stadium. The 23-year-old has found himself on the periphery ever since he returned to Hillsborough, so a new deal never looked on the cards.
Kadeem Harris, Jacob Murphy, Adam Reach, Alessio Da Cruz and Fernando Forestieri were all ahead of Stobbs in the pecking order, so it’s not a surprise that his 17-year association has come to an end.
