Jack Stobbs could be on his way out of Sheffield Wednesday this summer after struggling for playing time since returning from a loan spell at Livingston.

The 23-year-old had a short-term stint at Almondvale Stadium but didn’t make an appearance after September 2019 due to a serious knee injury. His contract is up in July and it’s hard to see his deal being extended as his last appearance for the Owls came in August 2018.

Stobbs made four appearances in all competitions at Livingston, scoring one goal. His last outing for the Scottish Premiership side came in their 2-1 defeat to Hamilton Academical.

The Englishman was an unused substitute in October’s draw with Hibernian and November’s defeat to Motherwell, but he didn’t show his face in the squad again and returned to Hillsborough as planned in January.

Since rising through the youth ranks to the Wednesday first-team in 2018, Stobbs has gone on to make six appearances across the board. The 23-year-old struggled to nail down a regular place, however, which led to his loan move away.

With Jacob Murphy, Fernando Forestieri, Kadeem Harris and Alessio Da Cruz ahead of Stobbs in the pecking order, playing time could be hard to come by when the season resumes.

Should the football season be cut short now or delayed for weeks/months due to COVID-19?

End the season now

Delay for weeks/months

Wednesday clearly don’t miss the striker as he’s been overlooked for a year-and-a-half, so Stobbs should be allowed to leave on a free transfer in the coming months.
