Morgan Fox recently admitted that his future at Sheffield Wednesday is uncertain amid interest from a host of Championship clubs, but it’s hard to see the Owls letting a first-team player leave midway through the campaign. Wednesday haven’t been linked with any replacement for Fox either, so why would they let him go in January?
Does Fox Deserve A New Deal
The 26-year-old struggled for opportunities earlier in the season, making just four Championship appearances between August and October, but he’s been a regular under Garry Monk. Fox has played in every minute of every league game since Wednesday beat Wigan Athletic 1-0 on October 5, so it’s hard to see him being allowed to leave.
That being said, Fox is out of contract next summer and isn’t close to putting pen to paper on an extension, so his future at Hillsborough will be uncertain until he commits to a new deal. But with interest from West Bromwich Albion, Nottingham Forest, Derby County and Blackburn Rovers, the left-back might be better off staying in Sheffield.
Wednesday are in the Championship playoffs and could earn promotion to the Premier League come May, so they’re in a stronger position than Forest, Blackburn and Derby. It’s unlikely the Owls would sell Fox and even more unlikely he’d willingly jump ship mid-season.
