Bruce Targets Soon To Be Free Agent From Former Club

|

It’s been suggested this week that Sheffield Wednesday manager Steve Bruce will look to raid former club Sunderland for defender Adam Matthews this summer.

The 27-year-old Welshman is pretty versatile and can operate in either full back role, as well as right midfield and he arrived at the Stadium of Light for a reported £2million from Celtic back in the summer of 2015.

He’s been heavily hit with injuries in recent times and that will naturally be a worry for Wednesday fans, but with his contract up this summer, if he moves on as expected he’ll have made 54 starting appearances for them, with a further 13 showings from the substitutes bench. He also spent two spells out on loan with Bristol City, but 28 of his appearances have come this year in League One.

The Chronicle Live round up the speculation suggesting our interest, but it doesn’t seem like there’s much concrete information other than he’s available on a free.
