Sheffield Wednesday skipper Tom Lees has been looking forward to the coming 2019/20 Championship campaign following a hugely successful half a year under new manager Steve Bruce.

The club went on a great run of form and results following Bruce’s arrival at the end of the January transfer window and we almost had a late play for the Play-Off spots despite our form in the first half of the year, and that has naturally bolstered optimism ahead of the coming campaign.

Speaking to the Official Site this week ahead of what would be Brucie’s first full season in charge, Lees knows it’s a massive summer for the club as we look to tighten the financials but also have a mini rebuild in the first team squad and he’s quite excited about how the squad may look come the start of our pre-season campaign.

“It’s a big summer for the club in all sorts of ways and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens. The manager knows what it takes in the Championship and since he came in he’s been trying to get us on board with what he wants. From the start of pre-season we have a good amount of time, and with players coming in and out, he will be able to shape things to the way he wants. He’s got the time to put his stamp on it over the summer.”

Adding.

“There will be a big change in the profile of the squad. The manager knows the league well and knows a lot of players, he has a lot of contacts, so we just have to hope we bring in the right faces and the boys that are still here have got to step up again as well. We finished twelfth having had a poor first half of the season and we cannot afford to do that again, the standards have got to be higher next year. Next season we want to give the supporters something to shout about.”

Fans will certainly be hoping his prediction in the last line comes true and we can kick on from how we ended the campaign and give ourselves an early shot a potential Premier League football in the near future.
