Sheffield Wednesday enjoyed a 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday and Jordan Rhodes bagged himself a hat-trick at the City Ground. The 29-year-old has struggled for form and playing time this season, but Garry Monk brought him back from the cold and has been rewarded for his faith.
Rhodes’ first goal on Saturday came in the ninth minute, volleying a close-range effort into the bottom corner after Steve Fletcher knocked the ball down. His second goal came minutes later and saw Rhodes head home a brilliant cross from Adam Reach.
The 29-year-old’s third goal of the came was in the 37th minute and was the pick of the bunch – he scored with a bicycle kick in the area to put Wednesday 3-0 up. Steven Fletcher wrapped up the scoring in first-half injury time.
First smiles since Thursday – brilliant from Rhodes. And Reach. Get in #swfc

FT: Owls 4-0 Forrest
What a showing from Jordan Rhodes. He is now joint in 2nd for most goals this season. Some incredible play from our midfielders, don’t discredit them. Reach was everywhere, putting the ball in dangerous positions.
Top away performance! #SWFC

Really please for Rhodes today. He needed that not just for him but to help get people of his back. Hopefully he can continue it going forward. Yet another Fletcher goal. That man is a god #swfc

Rhodes has made nine appearances in all competitions this season, scoring three goals. The Scotland international has racked up 385 minutes of football, only 270 of which have come in the Championship, but he could be set to start Wednesday’s next game against Bristol City after Saturday’s performance.
How will Sheffield Wednesday fare against Bristol City?
Win
Draw
Lose
Monk has been vindicated for picking Rhodes and will hope his scoring run can continue.
