Following today’s clash between Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich Town, here are the instant reactions from both managers.

Sheffield Wednesday hosted Ipswich Town at Hillsborough on Tuesday March 6, with the visitors taking a two one victory.

Ipswich opened the scoring in the second half through Martyn Waghorn in the 51st minute, and he completed his brace with the winner in the 83rd minute of the game.

In between his goals, Wednesday did make a fight of it and substitute Lucas Joao did level matters up briefly as he found the net with 20 minutes remaining but it wasn’t to be for Jos Luhukay’s side.

Teams:

Sheff Wed:

Wildsmith, Lees, Loovens, Fox, Palmer, Jones, Butterfield, Reach, Boyd, Rhodes (Lucas Joao 45), Nuhiu.

Substitutes:

Dawson, Pelupessy, Pudil, Preston, Abdi, Venancio.

Ipswich:

Bialkowski, Carter-Vickers, Chambers, Webster, Spence, Hyam (Ward 74), Skuse, Connolly, Knudsen, Carayol (Sears 25), Waghorn (Garner 89).

Substitutes:

Iorfa, Celina, Crowe, Gleeson.

Speaking to the BBC’s cameras a short time after match day referee Oliver Langford blew the final whistle, Sheffield Wednesday head coach Jos Luhukay explained.

‘Over 90 minutes, we have a team with no belief. They have not the confidence to play offensive and create chances. We had maybe only two or three chances and it was not enough to make a result. Ipswich had three chances and scored two times. When you have not a result, you must win games to get confidence back. They must stay together. We now have three days to speak with each other and Saturday is a new chance to do it better than we did today.’

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy in his comparative interview explained.

‘I think overall we deserved to win. It was a right royal scrap in the first half and we matched them in every department. We didn’t allow them to play and I thought we just shaded it. In the second, we were the better team. It was great to see Waggy get two goals – his second was real quality. He’s got a wand of a left foot. For him now to get his goals, he can calm down a bit and play his game and he’ll get more.’
