£1.44m-rated midfielder agrees deal with Sheff Wed, Owls ‘confirm’ 26 y/o’s loan extension

Sheffield Wednesday ‘confirm’ Josh Windass’ loan extension until the end of the season after agreeing a deal with the £1.44m-rated midfielder. Windass joined the Owls on loan in January and won over supporters despite a lack of playing time, so Garry Monk moved to retain his services for another month.

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

Windass was keen to stay at Hillsborough and has hinted at a permanent deal this summer, but it remains to be seen if Wednesday will make a move. The 26-year-old has made four appearances under Monk, scoring two goals, but a decision won’t be made on signing him until the season is over.

Windass joined Wigan Athletic from Rangers in 2018 and has gone on to make 56 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals with four assists. His future at the DW Stadium is uncertain, however, as the attacking-midfielder is in the last year of his contract.

Wigan have recently gone into administration too, so they may have to put their players up for sale to solve their financial crisis. Wednesday could capitalise on the situation by landing Windass for a cut-price fee this summer, so he’ll need to impress in the Owls’ remaining seven games.
